Madras Social Service Society [ MSSS ], the official organ for social work in the Archdiocese of Madras - Mylapore, registered under the Societies Registration Act on 3rd July 1969, works for the development of the poor and marginalized in the city of Chennai and in Thiruvallur Districts of Tamilnadu. With its vision "Creation of a Just Society" and mission "Empowering the Powerless". MSSS started with welfare, community health, mother and child health and food for work. In 1987, Developmental Education Concept was introduced and Community Organizations were started in 12 model villages. In 3 years time i.e. 1987-1990 MSSS expanded community organization works in the surrounding areas of model villages - approximately 50 villages. In 1998, Self Help Group [ SHG ] concept was introduced and area of operation was expanded many folds. During 1998 - 2005 our works have reached around 500 villages by covering more than 30,000 families. During 2011, a study was made and various programmes related to Food Security, Inclusive Development, social Security, Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Disaste Risk Reduction are planned and being implemented by the Society.
